How to Get a Show Dog for Free

We often receive inquiries about show puppies in our kennel. However, many people don't realize that sometimes you can even get a show dog (typically a male) from a reputable kennel for free. Yes, you heard that right, you won't be charged, but you will need to prove your serious interest in dog shows or training.

The reason for this is that breeders who aim to improve the breed need to have a selection of breeding stock, and an ordinary person doesn't need a dozen males at home. Therefore, breeders offer a mutually beneficial arrangement – you get a puppy for free, take care of training and/or showing, and the breeder has the opportunity to use this male for breeding at no cost (you cannot breed this male with just any dog; all breedings must be approved by your breeder).

So, how can you find a breeder who will be interested in you as a potential partner?

Search the internet (Facebook, Dogzonline, Instagram) for breeders who participate in dog shows. Write to them and tell them about yourself – who you are, what your family is like, whether you have dogs, where you live, and whether you are interested in shows or training. If your interest is genuine, the breeder will respond and arrange a meeting or video interview.

Next, you will be invited to attend dog shows where the breeder exhibits and help with preparing the dogs. By this point, you should already be a member of the ANKC to be able to enter the ring (only kennel club members can be in the ring). Generally, offer your help with shows and training. If you strive to learn, aren't afraid of work, show genuine interest in our sport, and demonstrate a desire to be part of this breeder's show team, they won't want to let you go. Within a year, you will gain a dog, invaluable experience, and many new friends and acquaintances. You might even find a lifelong hobby!

If you wish to independently build your breeding program using dogs from our kennel, purchasing a show/breeding puppy is also an option. However, we do not support breeding solely for profit, and therefore, the sale contract for a puppy with a main pedigree includes conditions for obtaining a title in training or at shows. If you already have a breeder's prefix and want to add a dog from our breeding to your program, you can use one of our available stud males or purchase a male for your kennel (terms and conditions apply).
